The ambitions of Aberdovey Golf Club to develop a Junior Golf Centre of Excellence have had a huge boost due to an award from The Peter Saunders Trust.

The thriving junior section will now benefit from new equipment and additional coaching from Andy Humphreys the new PGA Golf Professional at the club.

These and visits to professional tournaments should inspire the young golfers and help the club in its attempts to recruit more juniors from the locality. The club is particularly keen to recruit more girls to the sport and to the particularly strong girls section of the juniors.

The award will also enable the formation of a junior team with smart new kit and for the team to travel and compete at golf clubs across Wales.

The award from the Trust is worth up to £10,000 over two years and is structured in such a way as to encourage the Club and the juniors to continue to raise funds through their own efforts. This is done by including in the award an element of matched funding.

"We are most fortunate and very grateful to the Trust," said Paul Bloxidge on behalf of the Golf Club. This should help to develop further the golfing ability of those now in coaching as well as attract new entrants to the game through our planned schools programme. All of which helps to secure the long-term future for Aberdovey Golf Club."
